Roxas wants SEC chief out | 02/04/2009 5:08 PM

Senator Mar Roxas on Wednesday called for the resignation of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Fe Barin.

Roxas blamed the SEC for the financial woes of some pre-need firms, which informed the agency of their problems as early as 2007.

Lawmakers have criticized the SEC, which is tasked to regulate pre-need firms, for failing to do its job.

In Monday’s Senate inquiry, Barin defended the SEC saying they didn’t have enough staff to monitor all pre-need firms.

Roxas said that if Barin won’t resign, President Arroyo should sack her. — report from ANC
